Can I take the ram out of a windows vista and put it into windows xp?

Report as

RAM is independent of the operating system, so the short answer is yes, you can. However, what's more likely going to be an issue is the hardware that you're moving into. RAM technology evolves continually, even faster than the release of new versions of Windows. So chances are the RAM you're looking at is faster spec than what you're replacing in the XP machine. However, some RAM is backwards compatible, so you might be OK if the machines are only a couple years apart. Bottom line, you should check your hardware manufacturer's specs to see what type of RAM you require and make sure it matches.
