Yes you should visit a doctor as soon as possible to prevent an infection. The doctor will treat the wound and prescribe the required treatment before you get an infection.

Try the white part of a banana peel. Put the white side down over the piece of imbedded wood for 15 minutes. This should draw the piece up to the skins surface so you can grab with tweezers. Then clean the area with hydrogen peroxide. Then put neosporen on the wound.
If that doesn't work, go to doctors.

Good to know.

Great advice I will remember that.

How does a banana peal draw the wood up? Never heard that. Only work on wood?
Report as
Yes only on splinters. Potassium and other properties in the banana peel draw out the splinter (unless it's really deeply imbedded).

I would call for advice. Can you get it out with tweezers??

Or a needle, like a splinter. Then pour peroxide on it.

I read somewhere you can remove a sliver if you take a piece of onion skin, cut in into a small square, bandaid, and leave it overnight. Claimed the sliver would come to the surface. I think the philosophy is the smell of the onion would keep you awake, so pissed, you'd forget the sliver.

Absolutely positively YES!!!!
This happened to my mother when I was a child. It became infected and eventually had to have surgery. She almost lost her foot over a tooth pick. Tooth picks became illegal at our house.

Yeh, bad stuff. Hey u know me. I'm the first one to say Not to go to a doctor! But I've seen this first hand. The doc said the toothpick was probably once used and our mouths are full of nasty germs....

I stepped on a toothpick today - on my son's 18th birthday It while preparing to make sandwiches for him and his friends. Found the toothpick under the table - swore and picked it up thinking, "Thank goodness no one stepped on it!" Dropped it as I was throwing it away, didn't see where it went and stepped on it while I was trying to avoid doing just that! Went all the way to my heal bone. Broke off the top half and 45 minutes later was finally able to get a good enough grip to pull the rest of it out. I had to pull it out slowly because toothpicks get fatter in the middle. The piece I pulled out was almost a whole inch long! It's Sunday, December 23 and I can't go to urgent care or to the ER for a stupid splinter. Yowls!

@Superwonderphil (great name BTW) How do you step on a toothpick? Open mouth, insert foot. Or, pick your teeth with your toes or vise versa. :-)
