I just bought a new laptop windows computer what are the best free programs to protect my computer from viruses? etc.

Avira offers a good program but it is really worth it to spend the money and get the subscription level service on any anti-virus software you choose. Just remember you get what you pay for, for me it is essential to protect my investment so I pay for anti-virus software.

I haven't drifterw9 will check it out. RAiDER about the same price as Norton $60 but I believe it is a 2 year subscription

sherrya i use AVG2011 i think it is 39.00 a year all i know is that it is good. i went to komando and tried it free for about 6 months before i purchased it. visit kim's sight it is a wealth of information on computers and other digital stuff. jeff

If it is windows based use Microsoft Security Essentials it's free from MS.
Another good free one is AVG. go to avg dot com and download the free version.

I think they both are good I used AVG free version for a long time, then when MS offered MS Security Essentials free I changed to it. They have kept my laptop, desk top, and netbook free of virus, malware, etc. for the last few years (had about 10 or more PCs over the years)

if you will visit www.komando.com kim will provide a lot of free sites for free security programs. kim has a radio program that is live on saturdays. kim shoots straight from the hip if is junk she will say so or not recommend it kim is my digital goddess

Avast is a great program, and they offer a free version. I have been using Avast for years now. And it has consistently performed great.
