Well, if you had a great relationship, and the end was mutual and amicable (never had one of these myself, but I hear they happen), there's no reason not to...as a close friend. If you still love your ex as a partner, that's a problem. It's perfectly understandable to still feel a connection with someone you shared your life with, especially if it was a long time. Many couples actually get closer after a break up or divorce (especially if kids are involved), but the romantic feelings are over. If they aren't, the relationship never officially ended for that person, and he/she has doomed any attempt at a new relationship before it's even started. Closure must be sought ASAP.
