What does this quotes mean "We’re as likely to hurt the universe as we are to help it, and we’re not likely to do either" ?

This quote is from The Fault in Our Stars by; John Green

The quote means that in terms of the universe, all of those galaxies full of solar systems full of planets and stars, we are going to damage it as much as we will help it. However we probably won't help it. All it means is that we're basically not going to effect the universe at all

It means we are a bunch of apathetic idiots who are too disinterested to do much of anything.

We have the ability to help and/or destroy the universe and its inhabitants, but we won't do either because we're too lazy to do a anything at all.
