Is it true that shortening can't be digested?

health knowledge

Report as

The problem is all fat is digested at the colon. But things have to be almost liquidated in order to exit the stomach and enter the colon. Because shortening or other, similar, half liquid, un-water-soluable substances tend to stick together they make the stomach work way too much. And because there is no enzymes to help it is all muscle work.

It is not true that shortening cannot be digested. The only bad thing about it is that it takes too long before it is digested because of the state at which it is in. Read more at http://wellnessmama.com/2193/why-you-should-never-eat-vegetable-oil-or-margarine/.

Blame Michael F. Jacobson, Ph.D., co-founder and executive director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) that's who started and is behind every single bit of the BS with the food police. I've been waiting on some nutcase to do us all a favor and shoot his ass for YEARS now. I'm not kidding and if Big Brother is spying on me well go on and sue me. All you're going to get is some bills on top of more bills because that's all there is. So take a number and get in line. Shortening is the best thing they ever invented. Down here in the South we use it all the time! Are we dead? No. Aight then there's your answer

I think it depends on whether or not the shortening is hydrogenated. We have almost no ability to digest hydrogenated oils (transfats). But we can digest other fats and oils, particularly if we have the right balance of fats, oils and other nutrients.
