I left my cat alone for 3 nights, since then he wont leave my side, does that mean he fretted while i was away?

he is an indoor outdor cat, usually very independent, he had his cat door to go and come as he pleased.

Yes, it is possible that your cat fretted and that's why he won't leave your side. Cats usually like or enjoy being besides someone who cares and plays with it, so when you leave it alone, it will be always on your side.
