That depends on the individual, but most people will go into "starvation mode" if they miss a meal or two. For me, I know I need food when I feel weak, light headed, and nauseous and I have to eat every few hours.

For a girl, if you eat less than 1200 calories, your body will start to hold fat and burn protein; basically eating itself from the inside-out until death. For a guy, it's 1500 calories and the same effect.
