Hi Spreka1,Really appreciate you would like to know this. Here you can find the link to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TilakaFeel free to follow-up.Thanks,Jwalant Natvarlal Soneji
An Indian woman puts that on her forehead to simbolize she is married
I have always heard this red dot called a tika, although I learned from the link above it is also called the tilaka...It is worn by women as a mark of beauty, but the origin is devotional...because it marks the sixth chakra, what I think of as divine wisdom, the intuitional knowing of unconditional, divine love.It also called the third eye; and is referred to in the New Testament in the famous verse, "If thine eye be single, then thy whole body shall be filled with light."That is my understanding of this remarkable symbol.
this has a lot of different answers/reasons. but usually it indicates a blessing for victory, and success...m an Indian too:)
