What to do if cat ran away?

He disappeared yesterday around noon and we looked for him last night and this morning. He hasn't showed up yet and I'm getting really worried. He is normally an indoor cat but got out an open door. We tried shaking his favorite cat treats but nothing seems to work.

I'm sorry to hear that, I'm a fellow lover of cats. I think you should give it some time. Cats tend to find their way back, but if he doesn't, maybe you should ask around the neighborhood. If you find him, and I hope you have luck doing so, put a tracker on his collar.

I'm so sorry. I suggest making signs and putting them up around the neighborhood (If you have one) Make sure it includes a picture of the cat and some tips to help get him in case found.

Put fliers up so people know hes missing and go to all the shelters near you to see if maybe they have him or have seen him anywhere.

Put your cats litter box outside, near the door. He may be lost and the scent will help him find his way home.

Put up posters in your area with this info: a picture of kitty and/or physical description, your phone number, your address, and the word REWARD on them. Ask your neighbors to look for him. Call local animal shelters and let them know he's missing in case animal control picked him up or does pick him up. Keep food and water outside your home ALWAYS until you find him. Keep looking around, calling out his name consistently everyday. Don't give up. There are stories of cats showing up many months after disappearing. He can also be hiding somewhere so close to your home and you just can't see him. He's out there somewhere. Don't give up!!

This happened with my cat once, and he came back the next day. Leave out a bowl of food and put up signs around your neighborhood. Cats will normally come back home, so just give it time. Good luck!

You need to wait till it's quiet outside. Then put on shoes that don't make any noise, and bring a can of opened cat food, and walk outside around your house, or apartment building softly calling their name. Hopefully you will hear them responding to you, do it more than once. Keep doing it till you find them. Many things will frighten an indoor cat, even squeaky shoes. You could just sit on the grass in between rounds, and softly call them. I am so sorry.

I would suggest putting up some "Lost" posters around your neighborhood. Since he didn't get out too long ago he may still be in the area.

Leave his favorite food, treats, toys, etc. outside and listen/watch carefully for him. Usually, indoor cats or animal for that matter come home if they're hungry or tired.

I have been in the same situation. if your cat is a boy, it will come back to circle the house and mark his territory from the OUTSIDE, and all cats remember their designated living space

I would suggest putting up posters and asking neighbors if they have seen a cat. Also, talking to your local vet and/or animal shelter is a good idea in case someone has found him and brought him in. Cats are very smart, and can find their way back. If you recently moved, lost cats have been found at their old homes. Also, if the cat isn't already microchipped, made sure they get microchipped if he comes back. Good luck!
