Diatomaceous earth! It's a natural silica, and it coats insects with exoskeletons and cuts them, literally dehydrating them to death.
First remove everything you can from the infested room. Take sheets, clothes, and all soft surfaces and wash them in hot water (bleach if you can.) The remaining soft surfaces in your room - mattress, carpet, rugs - should be bare for easy access. Vacuum and sprinkle the DE in front of the vacuum so any bugs that get picked up will die in the bag. Dust everything with diatomaceous earth, even hard surfaces. Make sure to get into little cracks where they may hide. Also, DE should be dry as it gets soft and useless when wet. After coating everything, leave the room for about a week.
UV Radiation can kill them. It requires some effort and space. Take the mattress and box spring outside at dawn and place them against a wall that gets good sunlight. I then give them a good beating and leave them for 1/2 the day.. then I flip them so the other side gets the radiation. It's worked for generations before the days of exterminators.
I have heard that alcohol will kill them, but I'm not sure; there is an epidemic of them going around and I know ppl who have been exposed to them. I keep a bottle of 90% alcohol mixed with a little witch hazel handy in case I ever spot any I want to be able to do something right away!

You can use 80% isoproponal (Isopropyl alcohol) as a spray for killing bed bugs. It wont give any bad smell. Khatnil can also be used for killing bed bugs, but it will very bad smell, we cant stay in the room for 1 to 2 days.
