Best way to cheer up a friend?

My friend's grandfather just died in his sleep. God bless him.

Was he a Christian? If so, than you can cheer him up because heaven is better than earth.

Well, give your friend time to grieve. No one really wants to be cheery when a loved one has recently passed away.

I found it helpful to have someone to just be there with me; let her talk if she wants to, or just sit quietly by.

Say that life goes on and you can't change it. He has lived his life and died peacefully. Your friend should be sad, which is only normal. He should should express his feelings. Let him. Make sure he's comfortable and let him know that you're always there. (Which you are, right?) Death is a new beginning, as all endings are. Best wishes to you and your friend.
