The real reason behind Thanksgiving is to give thanks for a good harvest. It is an important day because we get to come together as a family and celebrate this day. Families come together to share a meal as they count their blessings. It is also a day to thank God for everything.
You should google what statements have been made about Thanksgiving by some of our past presidents about what we should be thankful for. Particularly interesting is one given by Abraham Lincoln in 1863 when the Civil War was raging.
To be thankful for everything you have. I am thankful for having a wonderful girl in my life, and everything that I have. I'm most definitely not rich, as a matter of fact, I'm closer to being poor. Be thankful for the things you have, you don't know exactly how long you'll have them.
Actually it was the native Americans (Indians) who took care and provided for the Pilgrims. They weren't prepared for their length of stay in the New World, nor the harsh weather and the shortage of supplies. The first pilgrims actually came to make a fortune and weren't the farming type. That's not saying that the white man didn't totally screw the Native Americans.
