Mosquitos are drawn by CO2..(Carbon Di Oxide) The best devices use a propane flame to draw in the bugs, and electric grid to kill 'em. No chemicals or pesticides to cause problems, and people don't smell the CO2. I'm betting you can rent one.
Geckos. They eat their weight in mosquitos and bugs daily. But same thing applies to cats who love to trap and eat geckos. I hate cats worse than mosquitos so I just use bug spray. Downside is bug spray makes your clothes smell and you have to wash them but I'm allergic to 99% of detergents except for one kind from Finland. They don't have it in the shops near me so I special order it over the web. In the end I pretty much just deal with mosquitos and avoid all the hassle.

Burning citronella candles cuts down on them. If it's a large gathering, you'll have to have plenty of them, and you have to stand in the smoke a little. I read one place that mosquitoes aren't strong fliers, so if it's windy you'll be less bothered. Maybe putting up some fans would be practical??? Oh, one more thing, there's a product sold by Avon that repels bugs, it's a bath oil...I can't think of the name. Let me go look and I'll post it under comments. Oh, wait, I know, Skin So Soft, just rub it on and the 'squitoes won't love you any more.
