The U.S. Navy isn't that bad, right?

My dad suggested I go to the Navy before (or instead of) college. Has anyone been in the Navy before? My dad also said there's less risk of being violently killed than when you're in a car on the road. Is this true?

Great place to see a little of the world before starting college or instead of college.
Hardest part is boot camp after that it can be like any other job. Just a little more adventure at times. It can also be a great career for some. There are many jobs in the Navy in which you are not on a SHIP 24/7.
Some jobs are risky some are not. Talk with the recruiter about your interests.
It is what you make it. Just like anything else in life.

If your in the Navy your gonna be on a boat 24/7 other wise with the Marines and Army you'll possibly go to combat. You may go to combat in the Navy too but not as much as the Marines and Army. Their basic training or boot camp may not be as hard as the Marines or Army you'll still have someone yelling at you 24/7 but not as hard. I don't know I'm not a Navy expert look up some videos on YouTube.

My dad was in a submarine, which was completely safe in comparison to anything.

I'd rather be on a boat than underwater...

I could go either way. I would like the safety of the submarine, especially if there were windows I could look at the sea critters through. I've always wanted to see a giant squid in person.

Also, it would be cool to be on a boat or ship. #StrawHat4Life

I'd rather be underwater, harder to detect.

your dad is correct about the car thing, and joining any branch of the military can help you get through college thanks to the G.I. bill.

I think it is partially true, however, last I checked the marines were considered navy, and they are very dangerous.

My father and most of the men in my family went into the army and say its the hardest and best thing they did for themselves. I don't know what to say about the Navy, but I'd imagine it's similar

My dad said it's not as difficult or dangerous as the marines or army, because you're not being screamed at or shot at. He also said the boot camp isn't as difficult.

My dad and his dad and his dad and his dad and so on were Navy men :3

That's true, unless you're going to try for the navy SEALS. Lol
