If a tree starts at 4 feet and grows half the height it did the day before how long would it take the tree to grow to eight feet?

The tree grew 2 feet on the second day.

this is a limits question (low level calculus) the first day it is at 4 feet, scond day its at 6 feet, third day its at 7 ft, 4th day 7.5 feet _ each day the tree grows half the height it did the day before. and while you can write an equation on excel to check this (btw the gap/distance will get really really small and start repeatin itself due to limitation in the excel program), the tree will approach 8 feet but never reach 8 feet, because the gap keeps getting infinitesimally smaller, and yet, still, the gap gets divided in half. how small can you go? grain of sand, size of an atom, size of an electron, you get the idea....

We would have to know the height the tree grew the day before. The fact that the tree starts at 4 feet doesn't tell us how much it grew the day before.

I read the question stated - it grows half it's height from the previous day.
day 1 =4ft
day 2 =6 feet
day 3=7 feet
day 4 = 7.5 feet
day 5 = 7.75 feet
day 6 = 7.875 feet
each day the gap/distance from the day before gets halved - this will get you closer and closer to 8 feet, but you'll never reach 8 feet - how small will the distance get - a pin head, a atom, a proton, a neutron .. and so on and so forth, just never quite reaching 8 feet -
trick question - it was a 1st year calculus question on limits.

depends on the height the tree grew the day before... :)
