Depends on the person I suppose. Those people who believe in a god or gods do so for various reasons.
Some like the sense of community their church brings. Some are afraid of death and need the idea of an afterlife to cope. A great many theists across the world believe simply because they were raised that way. You're not going to get one answer.
There really isnt one (god squad assault in 3...2...1...) I suppose its one of those things that can explain everything. like for example. there was a flood? god' earth, we are all being punished. that sort of thing.
you can ask now.. or find out later one way or the other.. someone is right.. cant wait to find out based on 10 out of 10 people dying (i dont think people will argue with that?) we ALL will hope for some.. that im wrong
Well I am a atheist so their is no point in believing in any god for me.People that believe in god feel like they will be rewarded and good things will happen to them if they are good and pray, thus making them strive to be a better person. For some believing in a god gives them a sense of hope. But people who believe in god can also do many evil things because they believe that they will go to heaven/be rewarded ect. Example: 9/11, the person that did that believed that their god would reward them for that. Religion has its pro's and con's but to me its just a fairytail.
It helps people find a sense of hope. It doesn't necessarily have to be during rough times, but even if it is, People have something that helps them keep faith or hope that things will eventually work out. Some people also like to have someone to thank for their good fortune or luck. And even in some cases, I'm sure people like to have someone to blame. And in times of need or loneliness, even if not physically real, it's good to have a shoulder to lean on or someone to confess to.
I'll try to condense why exactly without associating this answer with any specific religious organization. Believing in any deity is a "theory", for lack of a better word, of the creation of the universe based off of abstracted thinking and applying basic metaphysical ideas. Whether anyone agrees or disagrees with those "theories" is irrelevant when concerning the content of this answer.
There are those who find comfort in believing in a force larger than themselves, an all powerful entity to whom they can convey their fears and blind faith. Others just believe what their parents tell them to. Neither provides sufficient cause to accept the baseless mythology as true, in my experience.
The only "positive" things that a belief in a god offers, that can't be achieved without it, are: 1) Not having to accept the fact of mortality, both for yourself and your loved ones. 2) Never having to be "alone". By believing in an entity that listens, and cares about you on an individual level, it offers some a way to satisfy the human need for acceptance. 3) It offers a way for some to rationalize, and cope with, an often irrational world, by pretending "everything happens for a reason."
In times past gods were needed to answer the strange things that occurred, like lightning and volcanoes, etc., but our own intellect and scientific curiosity has replaced that.
I personally believe in God, due to the many things that has happened in my life. I'm not talking His blessing, I'm speaking of from an early age to now (Adult) I have seen, felt and heard many things from God. I was attacked as a child (around 10) and as I was being attacked, i called out to God and seen first hand what was attacking me and seen the one who came to protect me. I have also felt the hand of God as I prayed, the only way I can describe it is, I felt his fingers, (one finger was a bit smaller than my head) touch the top of my head and run through my body (as if touching my very soul) all the way down to my toes. Like I say I have seen the ugly side as well and have many more stories to tell but I have seen, felt, heard and smelled it more than once, therefore I believe. Thank You
I don't know for absolute sure there is a god. But the definition of faith is. believing in something you don't know is true.... and what's the other choice burning in hell forever? I'm takin the safe route. just kidding. Pray! god is his own to each person. he knows your weaknesses and your sins. but still loves even the most wicked person more than any mother could love a baby. pray. ask and you shall receive.
Imagining life without God is like imagining Radar O'Reilly without his teddy bear.
Belief in God gives comfort to those people who find life a bit too much to handle. He's a constant invisible friend in times of need, a universal security blanket in the sky, a primeval womb we can crawl back into when life gets too tough.
God is the shrink we carry with us, the counsellor who hears our deepest secrets and reassures us.
Of course, he's also completely imaginary but, what's wrong with a pocket-sized panacea you can consult in your thoughts? He is the ultimate, celestial placebo effect.
God wants a relationship with His people. He expresses His desire that we acknowledge and accept Him as the Supreme Being. Then He expresses His desire to associate with-to have a relationship with-those who accept Him as their God. Once we understand God desires a relationship with us, we should more than ever recognize we truly need Him The purpose for the creation of mankind: God is building a family-His own family. He created us so we can have a special Father-child relationship with Him. God plans to bestow His immortality on us. As Paul explains, _this perishable body must be clothed with the imperishable, and what is mortal with immortality"(1 Corinthians 15:53, REB). God wants an eternal relationship with us as His children.
I believe in God because I know He is real and I can feel His presence. The proofs for God, are all around us. We all are not just a body, but we are a person who consists of 3 parts: Body, soul, and spirit. We Christian can "Feel the presence of God" which is part of that discernment of the spirit. If there is spirit in us then there must be the spiritual world, which is eternity because spirit is the energy that cannot be destroyed, it will exist forever and ever. Body is only a shell for us to live on this earth, once the spirit left the body, the body will just rot away to dust again, for it was made from dust, thus come back also to dust.
The bible said spirit was the breath of God, where we were all created in His image, that we are all bestowed with knowledge and creativity to create things on earth. This is another proof how wonderfully God has created us human being.
Evidence for God : While absolute proof of the existence of God cannot be realized by any human being, the great weight of evidence, when rationally evaluated, clearly balances the scales heavily in favor of God. We can demonstrate "beyond a reasonable doubt" that "He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6).
I am sure you have gotten tons of responses on both sides, so I will try and keep this short. I think the point to believing in God, or any god, is to give people hope. I don't know about anyone else, but if I had to go around knowing that this life is all there is I would not be too happy. Belief gives someone something to hope for. It give them something to meet people with. And, if on the off chance that the religion you chose is correct, you get to live in a paradise for eternity.
Hope, Love and Faith. A life free on the inside. For who ever trys to save his life, will surely lose it. Whoever gives his life will surely save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world yet forfeits his soul? Follow me, pick up your cross daily. If all I have to live for is myself, and how much stuff I can get...that i cant take with when I die. Then let me die now. Life isn't an accident, you are not an accident. The past 3 years i've been a Christian, best 3 years of my life. Faith makes things possible, not easy. I can honestly say, i'm free. When you have Christ, and you live the Word.(not just a Sunday Christian) your life has purpose. Matter of fact, the book that started me wasn't the Bible. It was called "The Purpose Driven Life."
Well please let me ask you a question. In view of conditions in the world today, do you feel that we need something other than what men have produced?? " Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as in heaven." (Matthew 6:10) KingJames Version. I have observed that many long to live under a government that can really solve the big problems that face us today--crime and the high cost of living. Just to name a few things. Many people have prayed for a government that can do those things . That is what I pray for, for God's Kingdom to come. You know, Jesus taught us to pray for God's Kingdom to come and for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Many may feel that this prayer will never be answered. But that is my personal hope for that to happen someday. Answer for the person that asked question please.
Don't worry about believing in a god, but believe in the one God who created the heavens and the earth and everything in it. Respect your creator and do his will. He is worthy of all praise, honor and worship and blessing forever. Why be rebellious against God who created all things good and perfect in the beginning? If you are not on God's side, then you are taking sides with the devil, God's enemy and that is the same as going down the road to destruction. Do you want what is good and right or do you want to destroy everything? Why be in the devil's camp? His motive is to destroy God's creation including you. Read the book of John and believe and receive. Jesus is Lord.
Belief in God is a lot like Yoga - you don't see the benefits right way. The benefits of belief in God are long term and you don't see any fruit for it until years and years have passed by. For me it was 14 years before I began to see benefits for belief in God and this is just the beginning. I still have a long long way to go.
the point is God is real whether you believe or not. Philippians 2:10-11 every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. People think that if they don't believe in him they wont have to face him. Anyone can try and fight the word of God but they always lose. Scientist are looking into the Bible for answers on why there is so much earthquakes, tsunami's, mudslides, fires, tornado, and all other world tragedy's that is taking place all across the world. They have no answers but they do know that the bible said these things will happen in the last days. After death comes judgment and no one is promise tomorrow. Give your life to Jesus before its to late
Why believe in God ? Because he is real and what is written in the Bible is real. Please, do not be like the people in Noah's day - Luke 17:26,27 "Moreover, just as it occurred in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of man: 27?they were eating, they were drinking, men were marrying, women were being given in marriage, until that day when Noah entered into the ark, and the flood arrived and destroyed them all."
There are so many beautiful promises in the Bible that holds true - read Revelation 21:3,4; Psalms 37:9,10;Daniel 2:44;Isaiah 65:21-25. There are so many more things that Almighty God has promises us but you have got to take the time to read about it in the Bible.
Well, religious people believe he brings happiness and miracles to people who deserve it so to them that would be a point to believe in him. Also the fact that "good" people go to heaven. But this is only if you believe in that stuff
I'm a Christian so I believe out of faith. I believe because I have felt and witnessed things that when it happens you know it could only be God, when evidence is right in front of you're eyes and so real its impossible to ignore it and push it away. So really once you have witnessed God you can never turn back because of the amazing feeling that comes with it.
If there is a person who is powerful and loves you and has advice that will never fail wouldn’t you want to get to know that person? Your parents made you and many people who don’t know their parents search for years trying to find themselves because to understand themselves it helps to know the persons who made them. Without belief in God can you be truly happy? If you don’t know where you came from can you truly understand what life has to offer? Why is it that some who don’t believe in God still feel the need to look to “higher sources” or intellectual thought for guidance? Why is it that many philosophies that claim to be human based used things like” to be happy you should treat other people as you want to be treated, believe in something larger than yourself, and find real meaning in life?”. Doesn’t that sound very familiar to what God’s word the Bible has already said for years? In life it is possible to be truly happy and to live in a way that you have true inner peace and make decisions that years from now you will not regret. Honestly has anybody ever lead such a life without guidance from God ?
john 1:35 says "for God so love the world he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him shall not parish but have, everlasting life" That basically said If you believe you will be save if you don't you can't have everlasting life. if you want to be saved you have to believe Im talking spiritually not naturally so after death where would you spirit or soul go you can make your choice . you want Devil or Jesus ? If you want God you got to believe in him. Heaven or Hell....
u always feel some one beside ur self who protects u and it makes u brave u alway have some one to talk and ask for help some one powerful that ur sure he is gonna help u i think that's all reason that u need for believing in God
Believing in a higher power empowers you and give you the courage to push yourself to a whole new level because you know that you are not alone Some one has not only your back but surrounds you with protection because they love and care for you (1PETER 5:7)
