What is a good, dependable, and affordable first car?

The one you find on a car lot priced at your budget.

Don't get your heart set on a specific male & model. You could hunt for months for "the one".
Instead, know your budget, the type of vehicle you'd like (sedan, coupe, pick-up, SUV, etc.) & what you need.

Toyota is a very dependable car. I have a 2001 Camry that I bought used. It's a 4 cylinder and I get 500 miles (highway) per tank of gas. It's got over 220,000 miles on it and still going strong.

A Toyota Corolla is a good and affordable choice. The only problem I foresee is your first car accident. You will probably get in one. You might want a bigger car for that. You don't want a Stupid Utility Vehicle either. Maybe a Taurus or Impala. Something pretty big so that it will absorb the shock and not be the cause of an accident.
