Is it safe to watch tv in a lightning storm?

Report as

Yeah, it's OK ! Just make sure you have your good electronics on a good surge protector. APC makes the best ones and they are economical. It will save your TV or PC from getting blasted! Some of the electric companies can come and change around your main electrical box to have whole house surge protection !

Technically no, but everyone does it. Just dont touch the TV or sit close to it. Electricity can jump if the atmospheric conditions are right.

In the ancient days when you could see television antennas like a forest on the tops of houses it was a great hazard to be near your television in an electrical storm because the antennae would act as lightning rods. Now in the days of cable, fiber optics and satellites there is hardly any chance of your TV exploding.

is it safe to take a shower outside in the rain while it is lightning? I dunno but I do it anyway.

As long as you don't have one of those old fashioned antennas up on the roof and your equipment is plugged into a working surge protector it's unlikely anything drastic will happen. That being said my Mom was in a walk out basement years ago and lightening came through the patio door and struck the TV. Fortunately she happened to be wearing rubber soled duck shoes which saved her.
