I personally think Dell and HP are the best. But don't spend more than 500. They are just out dated way too fast. Also if you can afford one the MAC Pro Book is the best. It is a little different to run. But pretty simple to learn. My brother-in law and sister have one. They love them! With the Mac it's very very hard to get viruses, and to be hacked. Hope this helps.
HP is amazing. It is quite sleek and is fast. Quite a renowned brand, I hope you'll consider it. Sony is really cool too, though it is slightly more priced than HP. Toshiba, Dell and Lenovo are also really good.

Dell, I am on my third already. Tech support is outstanding and driver downloads are very easy. I cant wait to get my next with Windows 8. Besides most Corporate tech guys will tell you it must be a Dell. Bifster
Really love my asus ultrabook. very nice design and sturdy too, have it since 12 months and still runs smoothly. it's not so different from a macbook air, except for the operating system. depends on what you prefer I guess
The BEST brand is Dell mainly because of their warranty's, witch is 1,3 and 5 years(this period is determinant by the model the better the model the longer the term). on site. What onsite means is that they come to you and sort it out there. You do have to register for this. Acer does something similar but collects it fixes it and bring it back. Again you have to register for this. Samsung has a stander of 2 years of warranty on all their PC/Laptops. You do have to take it back to the store where you bought it though. PS. Alienware the best "PRE-BUILT" gaming machines in the universe is made by Dell.
You have of course, the well known windows brands such as HP, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung and a few others. Those are more for home/everyday use. They do also make business power laptops which are much better performance wise, something large companies can buy in bulk and distribute to its' employees. If you are looking for something for gaming purposes, you should look into Acer, Asus, Alienware, and a website called CyberpowerPc.com. Hope this helps!
I have been really happy with my Acer laptop. They are fast computers, and are great at getting the job done. It also comes with a built in webcam, microphone and picture-taking software. I'd recommend an Acer, but that's my opinion.
