What are some great/classic short stories/poems about growing up/coming of age? (In the US from variety of experiences)
I am a 10th grade ELA/US History teacher in NYC. Looking for a selection of pieces to help us wrestle with the question "What does it mean to be American?" I'm looking for pieces from a variety of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. Also to help kids think about, is there a common, collective identity of being American? If so, what is it?
