Why are children these days growing up so fast?

The way children act these days amazes me. Kids at the age of 12 getting pregnant. Talking about sex. Wearing, well, not much of anything. I have 3 boys ages 6,3 and 1. I want them to grow up to be respectful of themselves as well as others and will do everything in my power to make that happen, although, I know I can't prevent my children from messing up. I just don't understand why kids these days are so.... what's the word??? STUPID!!!

Report as

First - a lot of input as to how these kids behave stems from what they see is the "new normal." The ease with cursing, disrespecting parents, pre-marital sex, violence glorified on TV - for this generation it is all "normal." However, it has also been prophesied as to the behavior we will see during the last days (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

Some of the behavior and belief system of the young adult today is just right "embarrassing" - however, look at what they are being influenced by. It is not the real world. Continue to instill fine principles and guidelines to your children and hopefully they will remember as an adults (Proverbs 22:6)

well, I'm sure my parents used to say the same thing about us, and their parents about them. I think it also has to do with the media and what kids consider role models. When I was growing up wrestling and gangsters was the thing to be. I would go to school and everyone would dress like they were in some gang, which for a middle class predominantly white neighborhood....I mean. C'mon. Really? but that is the way the cookie crumbles.

it's just that every generation that come is worst than before! To where are we heading!:(
Report as
that is not necessarily true. Racism is going down. Sometimes my friends grandma would say something that we would think is totally inapropiate. I am sure that some of the words we say now are going to be very inapropiate for future generations. I do think that social media has decrease the morals of this generations, but it has opened up a whole new world to people that otherwise wouldn't be able to access. I see each generation like Pandora's box. You open it and all these bad things come out and you think that there is all there is, but if you wait long enough and if you look close enough, there is always a little light of hope that this generation would do better than the previous one.

Parents are much less strict and gets get away with more. Also there are a lot of bad parents that should have never reproduced. My ex was a teacher and she said girl are now hitting puberty as early as 2nd grade! That explains the whole sex and pregnancy thing.

Maybe kids at young ages talk about and have sex because it's taught in schools.....as "safe" sex. They have phones that advertise the newest makeup, hairstyles, and fashion.

That's the point; THEY'RE NOT GROWING UP SO FAST!! They're taking MUCH longer to mature!
And as for your kids, if you want them normal and mature;
Homeschool them!!!!!!!!!! That's the best way to keep them away from the inappropriateness of kids in public schools these days.

Homeschooling has a lot of issues too. There's good and bad to both. You can't protect your children from everything and you can't shelter them forever.
Report as
^true you can't shelter them forever. In my opinion, it's best to homeschool them until around 12-13. Maybe even high school. Then let them see what public school is all about. By that time they have a better sense of who they are, and won't succumb as easily to peer pressure and foolishness. The adjustment can be hard, but they will have some grounded beliefs to lean on, and they will be able to meet people and learn some important skills that they will need in life with an open mind. I was homeschooled until 7th grade, went to a private school for a year, homeschooled 8th grade, and then went to public High school. I'm a sophomore now, and I'm really glad I was homeschooled. It gave me a chance to enjoy life and pursue my interests. But going to school has also taught me a lot, and I needed to get out more and see other kids more often as I got older

That doesn't mean they're growing up. They aren't being watched! They have no parents supervision. Since God has been removed from everything, no one believes any more so kids are all depressed and suicidal!! They have nothing to believe in, make babies, cut their bodies plus the usual drugs and alcohol problems. It's sad and very scary!

It's caused by many things. One of the biggest reasons is the lack of proper parenting. Our society has become soft. Kids aren't taught respect anymore.

THAT is a very easy question to answer .. It's a societal benevolence. More and more parents are not doing their job to teach, mentor and pay attention to their children...because they are simply to busy conducting their own lives. Children are learning .. and more importantly being allowed to learn how to dress, how to act and how to socialize through the media. Societal tolerance for bad behaviour is rampant.

Society in general, has complained about the controlling and manipulating nature of parenting and teaching moral values to children. We have become a religion phobic society .. because society wants to be more in control of their own behaviour and not have to be strapped with religious belief and superstition .. to the point where we are now seeing an immoral and out of control society...where everyone can do, say and feel how ever they want ... and further think it's their 'right' to do so.

Much to the detriment of our society in general. We live a world riddled with mistrust, and self indulgence .. not to mention and heightened sense of self entitlment.

It's really kind of sad.

It's mainly the parents fault, and also the environment they grow up in. My 12 year cousin doesn't like Justin Beiber. Thank god!

Being around that age, they're probably just being immature idiots. I'd keep an eye on what they do, who they're with, what they watch, listen, and read, but overall, just be more in their life. But it's probably just a phase.

Ok first off u can't just blame it on one thing! It's multiple. The kids ppl hang with, the tv they watch, the music they listen to.
If u watch ur kid to closely they are 50% more likely to have premarital sex , sneak around, do drugs and so forth

Most children have parents who have active sex lives which they perform right in front of those kids and that is why. They take their kids to parties where they see them doing drugs, drinking and socializing. So it isn't television or online chatrooms. It is the parents of many many children. They are the role models.

It's the TV, computers, the way they are teaching them in the schools (about sex) and this is all evil. Parents should combat this evil influence with good Bible studies and teachings that will inform them of the truth so they don't get caught up into Atheistic dogma and attitudes.

Another problem is that there are more single parents raising kids and it's just too hard to protect them and manage it all.

Well we are living in the most evil time, were we make bad decisions. Once your kids hit puberty, be sure to give them "The Talk'. Try to set up a plan and some rules. When each curfew is, when to date, and knowing which friends to be with.
When there at that age in the teen years, try to spend more parents and children time, and talk about what there plan is for the future. If they need any help, be there to help, in fact try to organize a time, were you and your child can officially talk about there, day what they have been going through and such. But other than that, try to be more of a supportive parent than a mean tiger parent. :)

Oh but my dear .. There has always been cussing, bad behaviour, smoking, drinking in front of children .. THAT is nothing new. It's moral values that are becoming less and less prevolent and being replaced with a heightened sense of self entitelment .. THAT is the difference between how children were raised years ago (and a lot longer than 13 or 14 yrs ago) .. and now.

Kids, years ago were taught manners, a sense of fairness, tollerance and bullies were few .. Now days .. bullies are MANY...sadly THAT has become a increasing social pattern of behavior.

Now days, there are sooo many recognized emotionally damaged people that there are studies for this type of social behaviour or another .. and these 'behaviours' are now causing kids to be labelled . We .. now..live in a society where EVERY thing and EVERYone has a label. There has always been learning disabilites, hyperactivity, socially eneptness .. even back then it was controlled by parents and was socially tamed .. now days, instead of dealing with it as a social problem it is excused by simply 'labeling' it.

It has become far too 'easy' for kids to act badly .. schools can't discipline .. parents can't discipline .. kids are fully aware of what they can get away with .. including having sex at extraordinarily early ages. Kids ARE having sex .. and I might add .. unprotected sex without knowing ANYTHING about how to prevent pregnancy because..due to peer pressure (kind of sad, really)

Parents are no longer allowed to spank their children .. or display any level of contol outside the parameters of social acceptance...especially in instances where children are diagnosed with some sort behavioral abnormality. .. even though research clearly shows that good parenting and a loving environment can substantially decrease the effects of these 'abnormalities' earlier in a childs life.
Report as
Well for starters spanking on girls is sexual when someone touches someone butt they get in trouble and when you get spanked that is touching of the butt and yes sure the smoking and drinking has been done in front of us but yet it still has effect on us you may think not buy its true and parents now don't care for their children and you are obviously not a pre teen so don't argue with me you don't know what it's like
Report as
What in the world would YOU know about what I know?

You haven't got a clue .. Obviously .

If your idea of spanking a childs butt is sexual in nature. .. Then you have got a twisted sense of reality .. And no maternal sense at all.

Geeze Luweeze! You have got a lot to learn.

Report as
I don't you do ok I'm just mad that people are calling us stupid and idiots ok! Because not everyone is getting pregnant they should just say some pre teens!!!!
Report as
As a generation who seems to enter into sexual relations far more readily to the point where some even deliberatly try to get pregnant for 'kicks' .. there is a hightenened level of 'stupidity' going on and it seems those who are responsible and smarter than all that (perhaps like yourself) are now the acception.

Report as
I'm on bikergirls side. You ARE an idiot.

Well you don't have to get all defenceive and be a d!?# about it!

Report as
@ Pink .. you may be a little young, and even perhaps a bit naive .. and not really that in touch with the 'rest' of the world ... and in your little world perhaps, perhaps, no .. girls aren't going around getting pregnant or being stupid with their future .. but, I can assure you .. it's happening in the world around you .. Just because you are not in tune with it, doesn't mean that is doesn't exist. It's a cold hard reality, I am very sad to say.

Saying something is stupid .. when it clearly is .. is not being rude...it's being truthful and concise. This world is filled with very stupid people .. and as mentioned earlier in THIS particular conversation .. the behaviour of these people who irresponsibly enter into sexual relations without protection or who purposely try to get pregnant because .. well, I'm still not quite sure as to the why .. (THAT one I can't quite figure out) .. but THESE are the people I am referring to .. Their behaviour is stupid and irresponsible. It saddens me to see statistically more and more - younger and younger children are experimenting with sex when they have no business doing so. Some don't even know WHERE babies come from .. and are 'doing it' .. becasue they think it makes them 'popular'. Pfffttt .. If THAT is not stupid .. NOTHING is!

If it walks like a duck .. and talks like a duck .. it's probably a duck.

I agree with you. Because of the stupidity of parents, children act abnormal. Actually, children adopt anything they use to see and they do it without thinking about the pros and cons. So, it is necessary to guide them strictly until they get their maturity. But unfortunately, we do not have time to groom our children, to show them right path, to built bright future etc. We, the parents need to be dutiful, to be responsible.
