How do I explain why I didn't tell my parents?

My brother brought home a girl and they came home and got mad at him, but they got mad at me saying it's my fault too because I didn't tell them he did! What do I say?!

Telling you would mean tattling on him and he would be mad. You might say you like to let him be responsible for his own outcome. That's like going to jail cuz you saw a crime being committed when you weren't even the criminal. It's like being in a store with a friend and the friend decides to pocket something and you got arrested even though you didn't to a thing.

You need to remind them, your brother is his own person and he is the one responsible for telling them, not you. Take care.

Not knowing more about your situation, as a parent I believe anyone who looks me in the eye and says, "I was scared and I didn't want to hurt you! And I didn't want you to think badly of me cause I love you!"

Maybe you can try to bail yourself out by saying you were not there when they came in. You can also simply tell them that you were scared of the outcome. Just try to convince them that it wasn’t your fault.

Well if they found out when they got home, when were you suppose to tell them?

Your brother should be the one in trouble, and him ALONE. What the heck? I could understand if he where about 7 years old, doing something he shouldn't have. But it sounds like he's old enough to care for himself, and receive the right punishments for his OWN actions. Tell them you didn't say anything because you didn't do it.

Did you know it was wrong? If so explain to your parents why you didn't tell them, or when were you going to tell them if that was the case. Perhaps you knew it was wrong but you would have been breaking trust between your brother. If that's why then all you can do is tell the truth and let your parents know why you didn't tell them. Let your brother know that next time you must tell the truth. Lies always catch up to you one day.

Ask them if that will help your relationship with your brother. After parents are gone, siblings are all we have left!

He's your brother. There's an unspoken no snitching rule between siblings, that's just how it is. But they probably won't like that, so just say that you didn't know she was there. Or you could just own up to it and apologize.
