Particle accelerators. These accelerators take subatomic particles and smash them into each other at up to 99.99% light speed. Physicists attempt to recreate conditions following the Big Bang in order to get a better understanding of the early universe. These accelerators are also useful in attempting to find new elementary particles. The Higgs boson was found at the Large Hadron Collider at Switzerland. Physicists hope to soon find elementary dark matter particles.
