My neighbor came over and showed me a picture of my cat on his car and said he scratched the roof what I saw was six 4 scratches and 3 are

deep and he wants me to pay, so he got a estimate that came to $330.00 to repaint the whole roof top, the car is two years old and has a couple of very small scratchs with rust, now know one saw my cat scratch the car only laying on it so what proof would he have it could have been any cat there is a few running around, today he told me he was going to call the police and file a complaint just to make sure I pay him and I was never rude or said I wouldn't pay and the bad thing is I'm on disability and get a very small check each month. what do you think? Thanks

In my opinion the neighbor is trying to extort money out of you by threatening to call the cop shop! I'd tell him to call and make him prove that your cat was solely responsible for the damage. I seen where dogs have scratched the sides of a car. Cats usually just leave foot prints on your car.

neighbor sounds like a trouble maker. the catr may have made some small scratches but it's unlikely that it made such substantial marks as to merit repainting the entire vehicle as opposed to repairing a few spots

Unless you cat is a tiger then I highly doubt its claws were powerful enough to scratch through the clear coat, into the paint and down to bare metal. Also if there's rust around the scratches then that would mean the scratches were there long enough for the environment to affect it to rust it over. Tell the neighbor to call whoever he wants, he can't prove your cat or any other cat made those scratches. If you really wanna get technical, take the cat to the car and force its claws out and see it the spacing of claws match the pattern of scratches.
