Lactaide, eat some before you plan to eat any cheese or milk and you wont feel as much pain

lactaid tablets would be a good idea... i had a lactose intolerance and if I drink just regular milk but organic I'm fine.

Thx :)

I drink the powered form and I don't bloat up
Report as
if you are ok with the organic milk, it is probably not just lactose but the antibiotics which the cows from regular milk are fed..
Report as
Thx - tried organic - but I'm severely lactose intolerant and it didn't work :( TY though!

You can also take probiotics (acidophilus) in capsules or tablets regularly to boost the 'good' bacteria in your gut. This will help you to digest milk products.

well i would take some digestive spectroms and keep dairy out of your diet.(if u have a problem with eating it)

they have natural pills u can get at health places (food stores) that helps u digest food easier (pill is called digestive spectroms)

if u have an questions please leave a comment

i know about some food allergies because i have an gluten intolerance.

if u have good recipes for gluten free stuff please let me know

Have to love the stupid responses to a serious question. I use bread or crackers to try to absorb some of the lactose, after the fact. And drink some peppermint tea. It settles the stomach. Which was the initial question. Not how to prevent it, but how to deal with it, if lactose is ingested accidentally.

Thanks Rick for the sensible answer. I use the following recipe to sooth the intestinal track. It also adds some nutrients (smells nice too): 1 1/2c Jasmine rice, 2 3/4c water, 1 Lg or 2 reg chicken bouillon cubes (Knorr is good), 1 rounded Tbsp Caraway Seed, 5-6 turns freshly ground White Pepper (or 1/8tsp), 1Tbsp Omega 3 or Olive Oil). Combine all in heavy-bottomed pan, cover n bring to a boil. Boil 1-2 min. Stir a few times to prevent sticking n recover. Turn heat down to the lowest possible setting-simmer 15 min. Remove cover n fluff w/a fork. Start w/ 1/2c n see how it goes. I find if I eat this, lie down or nap for 20 min-1/2 hour n make sure to get enough fluids, I feel better within a couple of hours. Good luck – I hope this helps.

Thank you, Melissa. I, like llvzee, can occasionally ingest milk. Inadvertently, or course. And it's miserable. I printed out your recipe. For future reference. It totally makes sense. Rice. I've never heard of Jasmine Rice. But I will talk to the staff at Earth Fare, on my next trip. So helpful. Hugs.

LLvzee n Rick - thx for the nice responses. Jasmine is Iong grain white rice, aromatic n nutty. I think you can get it @ EF, but hard to find organic. If not EF, try Fresh Mkt. I get it in 20lb bags @ our local grocery whse. Grown in Thailand is best; American can contain high levels of pesticides. Ironically, I had to make it myself this week. Started on new meds-one of the binders is Lactose! Took it n suffered 2 days before I realized what was going on. Back on Ask.com reading your comments n a light bulb went off over my head. So yeah, it did the trick. -_-

I think the best way to deal with it is to transfer attention.
