God (Psalm 83:18) forbade priests & Levites, when on duty at the tabernacle or temple, to drink alcohol in any form, under penalty of death. (Le 10:8, 9; Eze 44:21) Off duty they were free to drink in moderation. (1Ch 9:29) So too it was a divine regulation that a Nazirite was not to drink any alcoholic beverage while under this special vow. (Nu 6:2-4, 13-20; Am 2:12) Because Samson was to be a Nazirite from birth, his mother was not allowed to touch wine or liquor during her pregnancy. (Jg 13:4, 5, 7, 14) When officiating, “it is not for kings to drink wine or for high officials to say: ‘Where is intoxicating liquor?’” lest they “forget what is decreed and pervert the cause of any of the sons of affliction.” (Pr 31:4, 5) Overseers in the Christian congregation should not be ‘drunken brawlers,’ and ministerial servants “should likewise be serious, . . . not giving themselves to a lot of wine.”—1Ti 3:3, 8. The Bible does not prohibit drinking alcohol but prohibits drunkenness. see the link below: http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1200004614?q=wine+and+strong+drink&p=par
Christians are called to live at a Heavenly standard as an example to the world of our self denial and love of purity. If alcohol dulls the senses then it will dull the pathway of prayer and reduce the resistance to temptations. Just a thought :)
Sure. The Bible doees not say 'thou shalt not drink alcoholic beverages' anywhere. However God does condemn drunkeness and loss of control as wrong and against His wishes. So everything in moderation. If you can have a glass of wine without getting tipsy and foolish and losing inhibitions then fine.
If you think it's ok, it's fine. If you don't think so, it's wrong. Let your own conscience be your guide. Is it wrong to dance? To play cards? To be involved in politics? I suppose to some strange people it is; my conscience is not pricked by these activities. And I don't let others be my judge in this.
1 Timothy 3:3,8- the Bible does not prohibit drinking and having fun - as most people think - it just admonish to do it in moderation.
Titus 2:2,3 - "Let the aged men be moderate in habits, serious, sound in mind, healthy in faith, in love, in endurance. 3?Likewise let the aged women be reverent in behavior, not slanderous, neither enslaved to a lot of wine, teachers of what is good.
So, it is written in the Bible as long as the drinking is done in Moderation it is ok. Anyone desiring to be healthy in faith must put forth diligent effort and maintain constant vigilance. Threats to sound spiritual health may come from within us or from outside. We must be aware of these threats if we are to maintain faith and spiritual health in this sick world.
