What is the difference between "I don't remember" and "I can't remember"?

Report as

"I can't remember" means you have tried to remember but failed
"I don't remember" means you can't recall it, but it is still in your memory

They are often used just as the writer/speaker's preference, and without actual difference however.

When you say I don't remember it means there is no chance to remember this in future. but when you say I can't remember there are chances that I may remember the things in future which I don't remember right now.
