I agree with Marthseem, what I am not clear about is whether your Mom knew you had it. If she knew, then she also knows that accidents happen. Perhaps it can be repaired at a shop that sells and repairs luggage. Maybe you can offer to split the cost of the repair. By offering to do that, you will show her you care about her things and take responsibility for them.

You need to tell her before she finds out herself or hears it from someone else. Sit her down and explain exactly what happened in a calm manner and then apologize even though it wasn't your fault. Give your mum sometime to react and accept whatever happens next.

Don't worry, if your mom let you bring it to school she probably doesn't care that much about it.

Bring it home and tell ur mom you need to tell her something. Say, "mom I was at language class and I accidentally broke the handle off ur purse." "I'm really, really sorry and I'll do everything I can to get it fixed" hopefully she will understand. Besides she has other things to worry about and she's probally heard worse things about what happens to her stuf. Hope I helped and hope everything works out:)

I would contact coach. They will most likely will repair it for little or no charge if it's faulty. They stand behind their product. It's not your fault, your mom will understand.
