I'm a felon as a minor. I'm now 20 years old. but its still on my record. can I own like a shot gun or a rifle and keep it in my house?

the felonies came from when I was about 15 and I'm now 20. have not been in trouble since then and would like to have a shotgun for home protection. any advice would be appreciated

If its still on your record that means you were tried and convicted as an adult. That means for the rest of your life you cannot legally purchase or own any weapon and should you be caught with one it would mean an automatic return to prison.

If you're already a felon, I wouldn't suggest buying a shot gun. And even than they probably won't sell you one...

I thought your record turns over once you hit 18 but since it was a felony that might not be the case for you. My advice is you find a path of peace like buddhism or something and transcend the use of guns.

Check the laws in your state. Most juvenile records don't count against you as an adult, but I suppose if the crime was serious enough, it could stay on your record forever. I think pretty much every state has their laws on the internet, in a searchable data base.
