How can I fix my iphone home button?

It is an iphone 4 in almost perfect condition but the home button needs to be pressed really hard a couple of times to work

That happened to me once, I just kept pressing it for maybe 10 or 15 mins straight and it worked great.

If you have a thick screen protector that's visibly taller than your screen on your phone it can cause dirt and dust to get pushed against the screen protector where you place your finger to push the home button.
When you push the home button, you push that dirt down the sides of the home button causing the button to "wear-out".
Usually, to fix this problem you can just rapidly push the home button in hopes of getting some of that dirt out of there, however, if it's still not behaving correctly then you might need to get a new phone entirely.

It's very unusual for the home button to legitimately break or wear-out because the parts under neath the button don't tend to wear-out as easy as other buttons.

You can replace it at the apple store ... But there is another way... If you go to settings>general>accessibility>assistive touch>on ..... It will let you have a home button on your touch screen
