Why can't we wear white after Labor Day?

Is it because of Fall coming up so we'll need to wear Fall colors?

Might be just a local tradition.
I live at the NJ shore, and the only rule we have after Labor Day; The lifeguards are gone, so don't swim in the ocean.

It is not a must, just a niche.
You see, white dresses mostly are either worn on special occasions or at summertime. The beginning of the September (Around The Labor Day) is the time to put off the summer clothes. After that neither today nor anytime in the history you can't see many people wearing white anyway.
Some, weird rich people at the end of ninetieth century made a rule out of it to not wear white during off-summer occasions. Which coincides with The Labor Day.
And that's why it is none of our business today.

White reflects the sun and therefore keeps you cooler which is why it is popular to wear in hot months. Dark colors absorb heat keeping you warmer. The rule should actually be more like, "Wear clothing appropriate for the season." That being said, even the big fashion names make wool coats in winter white, white parkas, etc. But a lightweight sundress in October looks a little silly. So put away your white strappy sandals which would get dirty quickly in messier weather and have fun with colorful scarves and hats.

Hahaha what??? Where'd you hear that? Of course you can wear white after labor day. If you couldn't, then you wouldn't be able to wear white on any day other than labor day.

this has been a "fashion rule" since I can remember from the 1950's. The one thing I don't think is "correct" is that at weddings..any time of the year..The Bride should be the only one wearing white

It's just a fashion(able) thing observed by the higher western socio-economic groups. It has no real purpose or function. Kind of like your sock color is suppose to match you pants. Who knew?

Its' not so much the color white overall anymore, but there is still a resistance to white shoes.

It's an old fashion custom. You can wear white if you want to. Just don't be surprised if people pass out in horror of your fashion faux paux.

It is not bad to wear white after Labor Day but white is typically a color worn during Spring and Summer.

This is an old rule that my mother and grandmother insisted on as I was growing up in the 40's and 50's. It mainly applied to shoes and purses and possibly slacks and skirts as well. One only wore white from Memorial Day to Labor Day. I still follow it and have already put away my white slacks.

Never judge the clothes by the weather,- white clothes match my white face,- my wife loves her white mink coat, we are masters of our fate,- why not the color of our clothes,- super marketing may make the weak minded person buy dreary clothing,- white is angelic and beautiful,- , be the captain of your clothes self master charley pownall

They say that because in some places it will actually start getting colder after labor day then going into fall and winter. Apparently you cant wear white with snow. It clashes. Dont really know why so me and my best friends wear white the day after labor day and nothing happened to us.
