Scientific research suggests that fish do feel pain. This would make sense since the pain mechanism is actually a protection. When a fish is damaged in some way or accidentally runs into coral it would know to back away to avoid damaging himself. That kind of puts a damper on fishing and throwing fish back just for sport.
