Is it bad to run every day?

I take about 1 day off from running a week. I usually run 2-4 miles a day, depending on how sore I am. My legs always feel really tense. Sometimes it's hard to bend between my calves and ankles. I stretch out before I run and I ice my sore muscles. Should I be running this much? If I continue to is there a way I can keep my muscles from getting so sore, besides what I already do?

Do not fret!... I run a lot too but if you are feeling like that its best to rest for two days or until you feel better.. Ice 20 min and remember to stretch a lot like you said:).

Yeah.. Try to take a bath in your tub with salts.. I was never into that till my sister told me about it now I love doing that if I'm sore!.. Or I just want to chill
Report as
With salt? Sounds weird but I'll try it! lol
Report as
Haha no bath salts:)... The ones they sell well at bath and body works or ulta.

You do need to take a break more often. You also need to make sure your shoes are appropriate for the run. Even if they are the right style of shoe, they must be good-fitting, good arch support, and not too worn on the sole.

How many days off should I have? I really don't like taking days off :/ lol
I think my shoes are good. They're cross-trainers... so maybe not the best for running but they fit well.

The typical routine is either one day running and the other day lifting weights or if you just want the running - 2 days running and 1 day off

Well I run in the morning and work out in the afternoon... I eat enough to maintain that. I just want to make sure I'm not being to hard on my legs. I'll try to start giving my legs more of a break though!

well it kind of depends on whether your running the whole entire time or your walking part of the time as well because i does actually make a really big deal

no. you leg muscles and abs need the least amount of time to mend after working out. you can work them out daily.

When you're finished running stay in the heat and stretch for about 15-20 mins. This will drastically cut down on sore muscles. Stay hydrated as well c because dehydrated muscles are prone to being sore after a workout. You should take at least 2 days off a week from running to give your muscles time to heal.

Thanks you! I never stretch out after my runs I usually just collapse haha but I'll try it ^_^

You'll see a difference especially if you stay in the heat while you're stretching. It gives your muscles time to cool down while they're still warm.
Report as
I hope so! Hopefully it works in the fall and winter too though :/ It gets cold up here haha
Report as
Sure it will!! Just go inside after your run and keep your jacket on while you're stretching and you can even do it in a warm shower. This doesn't work well in the summer though cause most people have the air conditioner on and your muscles get cold while your getting ready for your shower which will make you sore the next day, that's why you should do it outside in the heat during the summer.

Okay! Sounds good, thanks a lot! ^_^

I would like to add that static stretching should only be used after your run not before.

Not before?
Report as
No static stretching before will actually make it easier for you to pull a muscle or hurt yourself. It has been proven for a long time it is just something everybody was taught as a kid so we keep doing it.

Not really, but you should make sure that you drink plenty of water if you decided to run everyday

Yes, your muscles must rebuild every day you run. Maybe try every other day.

I don't want to give my muscles the chance to "bulk" up though... I don't want super muscular legs, I just want to build endurance and lose some weight.

Sounds like the muscles in your legs are strained from all the running. You can make it better by relaxing it in a bath, stretching, or even just lying it on the bed. Once it gets better you can continue doing your daily routine and good luck! and no it's not bad to run everyday as long as your eating sufficient calories.

Always stretch afterwards ! If you don't, some of that Latin acid will build up causing you to feel that stiffness or soreness.
