It is a mixture of sucrose(white sugar) and fructose(fruit sugar) much like the table sugar. However corn syrup extracted from corn has more fructose and less sucrose and therefore it is sweeter then the usual sugar which is made out of sugarcane or sugar beet. It is proven that fructose has a major role in diabetes more than sucrose. That is why corn syrup is unhealthy but they still use it in industry for sweet drinks like soda for instance because it is cheaper. You can use usual sugar instead.
