How can I get over being so shy?

I'm certainly a public school, but the problem is that I have no friends, all because of me being shy. I'll try talking to people, but then I freak out, and shake because I don't know what to say. Then I'll feel embarrassed and I'll feel like disappearing.

I've always been a shy person, and it is NOT easy socializing. But,I've learned that if you take a few deep slow breaths before going to talk to people,it really helps, just tell yourself they're not there to judge you or anything, and they are just people like you are.Start with small talk, and then after a little while, when you get comfortable,it should get easier :) Most likely the person you are talking to will be able to see that you're shy,and be patient.

I'm a extremely shy person, I'm terrified of talking to people but sometimes you've just got to put yourself out there (I know it's scary but you'll feel better) --baby steps! smile at people, be friendly and kind.

Find people with common interests. It's no good putting yourself out there if you've got nothing in common, and you're a lot more likely to get along with people you share interests with in the long run. Remember, it isn't about just making friends with people, it's about finding the right people to make friends with!

I use to be uber shy. It's tough -- I know. I can relate to the things you said.
When I entered the 11th grade, I did things that helped it go away. It's been some years now, and people actually call me outgoing & I don't feel shy anymore.

Honestly, in my experience, the only way to get rid of shyness is to put yourself out there and do things you would never ever want to do. Get involved in after school clubs, if possible. And, why not try running for those clubs' positions. Awkward, I know. & who cares if you lose. Each experience will allow you to learn that you can survive. It gets easier, each time. I wish the best for you :)

Also, where a bold or cool piece of clothing you like. Be bold, be you. (It may draw attention). But, you'll be you -- and it helps build confidence.

I don't think you can "get over being shy" and even if you could, I personally wouldn't want to. The world needs shy people just as much as it needs more outgoing people. If you want to make friends, try approaching someone else who looks shy. It'll be easier for you to do this one-on-one than in a group of people.
Start talking about something simple, like what classes they have, or where they're going next. If they have a book, ask them about that.
Don't be afraid, if they don't want to talk to you then they're the ones missing out.

Try talking to your friends and finding out who some of their other friends are, and get to know those people. Make connections through other people, and once you have one that, you will know so many people, you won't even believe you were ever shy at all. You just need to be brave and you can do it. You know you can! Good luck!

Trying to be someone you are not will not make you happy. What will make you happy is to embrace who you are. You need to discover this. If you are an introvert you need to invest 19 minutes and see this video "the power of introverts". This video had a profound effect on me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0KYU2j0TM4

I used to be just like this, but the best way to really get past this is to get the mindset that you just don't care much of what they think about you anymore....if you look at me now of how I can talk to random people about anything, you'd have never thought I was the same.

If you get a job or volunteer where you have to interact with people, preferably one on one, that will cure your shyness because sometimes other people are shy too and if you project warmth and sincerity and not be judgmental, the other person will become more comfortable. I used to be shy when was seventeen and I got a job working at a hair replacement place. I decided that if I acted shy with these clients that felt vulnerable, they would never feel comfortable with me. Preferably you would want to be at a place that isn't overly busy at first. Try it. It works. I'm almost fifty now and I am no longer shy.

Asking questions usually gets the other person to talk, which is key in the beginning part of your relationship with people. That should be both people's objective. It could be as simple as "how are you," or something more complex like, "If poison were to go bad, then does that mean it gets good for you or even worse?"

Have a happy place. After you thought of the happy place, try to imagine yourself being the person you want to be friends you can try to think what they like. If you do this next part everyday, you not be shy; talk to someone for about an hour of anything you want that they can relate to. You can also try to go out and get to know more about someone by doing this. If you do this, you will have friends in no time.

I am a shy person, and it no longer bothers me. It's part of who I am, and it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you or that you need to change. It just means you are more introverted, which in itself is a great quality -- you are probably a great thinker. Sometimes that thinking ability means you tend to over analyze a situation which causes you to be shy and afraid of saying something wrong. Just be confident in yourself, do what you love, hang around the right people, and don't try so hard. Half of all people are introverted, and many people just practice leaving that comfort zone. It's OK to say something wrong, too -- I do it 10 times a day! :)

ill tell you something that makes sense... you need confidence, and the only way you will build that is by doing more things, try new things and accomplish what you didn't think you could do, we all know when we've done something we really liked we always feel happy and bouncy, you will see that feeling last for longer when your going out and actually doing stuff, you also want to consider your clothes, your body image and hygiene as if you have high quality of each one of these you will build inner confidence, i used to be shy then tried out, rugby, gymnastics, going to the gym, dancing, air cadets, theatre, i was a model for some time, i leared how to play instruments and soooo much more, if you accomplish things it builds self esteem in tern that builds your confidence, hope this helps!

I believe that shyness can be cured by going through the process of self-acceptance; firstly understanding what your beliefs are, most particularly beliefs about yourself - e.g. whether you are entitled to all the pleasures and rewards that are available to everyone; secondly understanding where exactly these beliefs came from (most come from childhood) and lastly changing the beliefs that are in the way of self-acceptance. Finding out the beliefs about yourself and where they come from will go a long way in helping to change them.

I know what's that like. Let's be friends. I've been shy forever but now that I'm in high school, I've gotten confidence. I find it's helpful to stay away from the people that make you feel bad about yourself. Low confidence levels are the reason for being shy. Low confidence is typically caused by people that put you down.
