All of the above as well as having the person meditate, breathe SLOWLY in through their nose as they count to 10 in their head and blow out SLOWLY through their mouth as they count to ten in their head. Once their breathing is calmed down it will help tremendously and they won't feel as stressed out. Also you can have him/her count out loud SLOWLY up to 10 and not think about anything but the numbers and their breathing. I put slowly in caps as it won't work if it's done at a fast pace =)

well let them know you are there by touching them on the shoulder looking them in the eye and speaking in a soft voice and tell them that everything is going to be alright and bring them to a positive atmosphere. A place where both you and him or her can enjoy yourselves and come back with a different perspective and clear mind to resolve the problem later than panic and feel depressed. I would recommend a place like a spa where you can get massages
Find out why the person is distressed, calm him or her down and sit together to find the best way to help. There are some people who feel relieved when they share while there are others who may not want to say anything at the moment. Give them some time alone and come back later. Find the right words to use and give the best solution you think can help the situation.
