How can people think its ethically correct to place pets on Cragslist and charge a large rehoming fee for nothing?

they place dogs on there but charge anywhere from $80-$200 and for what? they don't give you a doghouse or leash or food or any supplies. they don't have proof of any injections or spay/neuter. so I'm paying for what? to take care of your dog? not cool people. why do people do this?

I agree .. I see that 're-homing' word used far too often. Most often they don't give a rats patootie about the welfare of the pet ... they have bred their 'stock' for one reason and one reason only .. to make money. They think by candy coating it on Craigs list with words like 're-homing' will somehow soften people's reactions to back yard breeders.

.... Having said that ..

Sometimes, like with volunteer shelters and pet rescues .. animals are turned into them and their care costs money. Money that the volunteers have to scrape and beg for on a daily basis .. The fees that are involved with adoption help to cover the expenses that the pet may have caused .. like feed, neutering, vet bills etc. So .. 'sometimes' .. the fees are necessary to stay in the 'business' of rescuing animals.

Agreed. I understand an adoption fee bc it's actually less than a quarter of the actual bill of their vet bills, but these people on other websites offer nothing but a pet they probably found or have stollen. Shame shame shame

I totally agree! I think so too

Besides the pet care there's rent to pay, maintenance of the housing, a skimpy amount of heat, electricity.
Become a monthly supporter of your local animal shelter. Even volunteer time and skills. They operate on a shoestring budget.
Many times our local shelter doesn't have enough money to cover salaries for it's understaffed and overworked employees., Thank God for a couple of charities who come to the rescue often. Even our food bank collects pet food for them. These animals are an accident of birth, just like humans.

"Re-homing" is a stupid word. It's selling pet. You don't have to do it, so who cares.

Because it makes me mad people are selling "their babies" for the low low price of $50 when they haven't even gotten their shots.

I agree I can understand if they have proof of everything. I paid $300 for my purebred chihuahua but from a breeder not on Craigslist . my other dogs are rescued dogs

Yeah. I was looking for a free dog. The dogs I've had in the past have been purebreds from breeders but I can't afford that much anymore. I was looking for a free dog that needed a nice home. But people say they want a $80 rehoming fee to insure it goes to a good home. How is me paying you $80 assuring you my home is good? It doesn't. They just have this mutt they're trying to charge lots of money for w no paperwork and no essentials. It's ridiculous. I want to adopt from a shelter but again it's $100 something. And I know that's great bc they have all of their shots, dewormed, and spay/neuter. But I don't have that kind of $ right now.

Actually, cutechica .. paying a hefty price like $80 will thwart those who try to get dogs for horrifying purposes (like bait dogs for dog fighting rings) .. THEY are notorious for looking for FREE dogs. Charging a price like this make PERFECT sense.

Visit your local animal shelter. You can pick out a nice dog, in person after meeting it, walking it, and spending some time with it. Their fee is just to cover costs. A donation is always a plus even if you don't take a dog.

Must have been a reason for running into this... It popped up while browsing.
I guess the topic needed to be re-addressed.

Because they have no conscience. They are an accident of birth just like the animals. I wish they could switch roles with the animals for a day, and see their effect.

Amen. I'm glad the topic came up again. This is a real critical issue. Besides... Seems that Craigslist is getting complaint after complaint. Perhaps they should dis-band.

And yes, cutechica, I totally agree... A swap of places would be in order
