Why are fathers so protective of their daughters when it comes to boys?

I mean I get the whole "growing up" Thing, and yeah it must be pretty scary to watch you're "little" Girl go out with boys, but if a boy asks out your daughter, then that's a compliment to your daughter, so shouldn't you be happy? Would you rather your daughter not get compliments from people, boys specifically, I just don't understand it fully

Because we was that age once. No matter how hard we try and tell our girls they only want one thing, they don't believe us. I'm a father of 3 girls. i had my first daughter when I was 17. Nothing is wrong with the "boys", you just have to wait for you both to grow up. Especially the men. Girls have everything to lose and nothing to gain by dating "boys"!!! Just a fact.

They want you to make good grades and learn. They don't want you to get distracted.

Fathers were once teenage boys and they know exactly what runs through their minds. They don't want anybody thinking like that of their little girl!

Oh believe me, I know I'm perfectly naive, which is why I choose to stay in my room on the internet, to protect myself and others :P

My dad wasn't, because he knew I was smart enough not to be one of those girls (;

@Russian, I am so proud of you for not being "one of those girls" but yes your dad still thought the way daddy's do. Just like daddy's know no one will ever be good enough for their precious little girl! You have a great dad I am sure. He most definitely was "one of those dads!" Lol! :0)

Cause we was boys once and we know most boys are no good. it is hard for cause but we knew they day was dimming since you was born. I surprisingly didn't react the way I thought I would, but he seems like a good guy with the proper amount of fear of me. luckily she dumped her first boyfriend, cause I was going to.

Lol, Dads are protective of there daughters for many reasons . They know exactly how guys think . I'm a Mom and I'm very protective of my daughter too. Because, she beautiful , smart , all around great girl. I don't think any guy is good enough . Just saying .I'm a adult with two teenage kids ,married and my dad is still over protective of me . I don't think it ends..

I'm a father of three beautiful young ladies. I have been called the "shotgun dad" girls hold a special place in a dads heart that is very hard to explain. I think as a father, I want the best for my daughters, a guy that is a hard worker, respects her as a person, and would do anything to take care of or help her have success. Someone who I know would be there for her if she needed him. There aren't many guys left out there that have those qualities anymore. I just want her to find someone that she is "just a woman" and a woman has a place, he should treat her as an equal and know her heart. A dad can tell if a guy has this kinda qualities or not. So at least think about what your dad is telling you about guys when he does, dads are protectors.
