There are different types of schizophrenics and they can have many positive and negative symptoms (positive doesn't mean good)
Positive symptoms can include dillusions, hallucinations, doing things in weird order, mixed up thought process, etc. Negative symptoms can include things like lack of emotions, social withdrawal, loss of interests.
The most well known schizophrenia is paranoid. This is when the person believe that someone is "out to get them". They may see people that don't exist such as a police officer that's trying to set them up or watch them.
Schizophrenia is usually genetic, but it can be caused from drug use, like meth, as well. Someone with this disorder could go untreated for years and without treatment it gets worse. When being treated, they are given an anti-psychotic drug.
If you want to watch a good movie on it to see what it's like... Watch "Fight Club" "A beautiful mind" "Shutter Island" or "Secret Window"
they have irrational fears that everyone is plotting against them or out to get them.it can be helped w/ medication, but most schizophrenics think people are trying to poison them w/ the medicine and will do everything in their power not to take them
It is believed the schizophrenics' brain is not processing "time" correctly. They are reacting to things that already happened in the past which is very disconcerting since it isn't there at the present.
The mind or psych has 3 parts. Id deals with self, Superego deals with environment and Ego balances the two and makes us mentally sound.
If Ego breaks down then Schizophrenia sets. There will be a tug-of war between Id and Superego
1; If Id wins. Paranoid schizo sets in. I am on top of the world. Not only do I build castle in the air but I live in it. Self become important even if it means mowing down people with submachine gun unprovoked.
2; If Superego wins, Catatonia sets in. The environment becomes so important that it slows down the mind. 'Do not kill the world' becomes one's motto. It is important that you give way to ants when walking. Water has become so scarce it is best preserved for the needy. To keep the world alive the ultimate is commit suicide.
3; There is no draw in this match
Both Freund, the architect of this theory and Einstein the architect of Law of Relativity had family history of mental illness so it is said. So be advised do not go too far in Disproving God or Proving Him:)
They live a life of delusion. There was a movie a while back "A Beautiful Mind" about Dr. Nash, a Professor at Princeton University afflicted with this disorder. You can watch the Nat'l Geo film at the link if you've got an hour to spare. http://youtu.be/QNRrDYE74ZE
