Has anyone ever thought of this situation, and is it possible?

If a cop were to try and set up a drug deal, saying he was a drug dealer on craigslist, waiting for someone to entrap. Then another cop came along posing as a buyer and wanted to entrap this "dealer". Both are waiting for a cash exchange, right? Then when the cash exchange happens both would start trying to arrest the other. Could this really happen? If so, thats ridiculously funny and I hope it has.

If it has happened it wasn't the same agency.

It's happened in movies. Dennis Dayle is famously quoted as saying "In my 30-year history in the Drug Enforcement Administration and related agencies, the major targets of my investigations almost invariably turned out to be working for the CIA."

Unlikely to happen since they are more concerned with catching dealers and not buyers. For that to happen they would have to be separate agencies. Only locals are going to care about small time busts and they generally talk to each other when sharing a jurisdiction. Feds wouldn't bother selling fake drugs since only an idiot would buy weight from someone they have no knowledge about. They are concerned with going up the chain not down.
