If you read in bad light, or poor light and small text, it can cause eye strain. However, nearsightedness and farsightedness has to do with the physical shape of the eye, and reading isn't gonna change that.
Yes, Stevie Wonder could see but he loved to read. Of course not, in low or poor light you may get a headache from trying to pick out the letters. Prior to the 70s folks read much more than they do now, in fact most of the time that you had nothing to do, you read. We had very few channels, AM radio & lots of books. Check your genes, they'll often give you a clue about future needs as far as glasses, hair plugs etc. My mother's 70 & she'll use reading glasses every now & then, ditto with me
