Well if your boyfriend likes jewelry then a nice watch is always nice and you can usually find them fairly inexpensive these days. If not, then maybe you can get him a nice bottle of cologne that is not too expensive but not too cheap either. Maybe buy him something nice for his cell phone.

Someone recently said to give experiences like making cookies together, a surprise picnic even the dorm room, ice skating with hot chocolate .the key is to make something out of It.... Wrap the ingredients for the pizza.....stuff like that.

Here are a couple of things I've done for my husband over the years for our anniversary. He is very sentimental so while he cherished these gifts, some guys would think them to be too "mushy". Our 8th year anniversary is this year too! (We don't have money so I understand your predicament).
One year I wrote an poem (more like an ode) for him. It was very long and I started out with the first time we met and included funny things that happened over the years, how our love grew, what he means to me, etc. He loved it.
One year made him a coupon book full of coupons he could redeem whenever he wanted. There are so many things to put in them that the possibilities are endless. They can be romantic, silly, quirky, passionate, whatever you think that he would like. Some that I made for my husband: he could pick a night of movie rentals (we constantly struggle to find a movie we both like), I'd cook whatever he wanted one night and clean up the mess, I'd give him a one hour foot massage, and there were many private coupons that I won't repeat. He really enjoyed them and even though I gave the coupons to him two years ago, he still has some left because he wants them to last forever.
Last year I bought a blank journal and filled it full with love quotes from poems, music, movies etc. He said that this was his most favorite gift he'd ever gotten.

I hope you come up with something. Remember though that it's not the gifts that matter, but the time you spend together. Good luck and have a very happy anniversary!
