What is dark matter? What do we use it for? And why is it important then we ever imagined?

Report as

According to astronomy and cosmology, dark matter is matter that do not emits nor scatters light or other electromagnetic radiation. Therefore it cannot be directly detected through optical or radio astronomy. I think that it is important because it constitutes about 83% of the matter in the universe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_matter has more information.
