Sometimes. Some of them are just fakes looking for extra money which I think is pathetic, but there are also some that are true. To make sure they don't just want the money or to make sure they don't spend it on drugs, my mom buys a bunch of $5 gift cards to mcdonalds and hands homeless people one of them every time she sees them. Hope this helps :)
some are but some are fakes. theres a man who begs for money by a walgreens where i live so he can buy drugs but its funny how he does it cuz this week he had a "broken" arm and last week he had a "broken" leg. its not possible for it to heel fast

It's up to you. I see a lot of drivers pass people who are homeless holding up signs. They pass with too much ease in there drive. I usually always give them some money, sometimes a happy meal or meal from mcdonalds or fast food and money for sure. They could be faking but, why chance it. It's their conscience not yours. Why drive off wondering? Give them some money and a burden will be lifted from your conscience. If you have no conscience there is probably something wrong with you, and your life must be worse in some way. The way I see it anyways. I know your innocently legitimately asking this as I have too. But to those people who dont help, those people I noticed are monsters with no heart. You should always give them money. If they are desperate enough to hold up a sign, they have problems worse then you. You should always help them no matter what. So what if he or she goes and takes that money to buy some booze, or drugs. Its no longer your problem, You can look at it that way and wonder about it that way. Most likely they really do need the help. Always give them some money. They are less fortunate then you are, so help them.
I suppose it's difficult to tell the difference between the truly needy and the scammers. I once saw a John Stossel show where several of these sign holders racked up the money during the day from well meaning people and returned to a very nice house at night to count their take - and that's how they make their living. Most of them actually think it's amusing that they can suck in so many people. They have no shame in sucking in the suckers.
Yes a good majority of them are, times are tough. But there are a few fakes that want money for booze or drugs, they ruin it for the people really in need.I give money to a few homeless people, not the fakers.
