***** Get more sleep at night. Eat a good breakfast to get and keep the motor running. Pay attention to the teacher! ***** I hope you know that those monster or other "energy" drinks cause people to be tired and worn out. You get an initial boost then your body works overtime trying to get rid of all that sugar so you end up crashing hard. That's probably the exact reason you are so tired.
You can stay awake by participating in class, taking short notes while the lesson in progress and asking questions where you don't understand. This will make you attentive and awake throughout the lesson.

1. Eat a healthy diet and take a multivitamin with plenty of B and C in it. Your energy should come from food, not soft drinks. Eat plenty of protein (like scrambled eggs) in the morning for long lasting energy. 2. Drink lots of water - dehydration makes you lethargic. 3. Get plenty of sleep. 4. Exercise - studies show that those with exercise routines sleep better. 5. Don't just sit there with your head in your hands. Participate in class.

Getting proper recuperative sleep at night is the 1st thing to combat a lack of energy during the day but .. 2nd would be fueling up in the morning with breakfast but believe it or not .. being tired or sleepy during the day may not be because your necessarily 'tired' .. it may be due to dehydration. Try drinking more water .. and see if your energy level increases. It worth a try.
I find that if I do enough exercise to get a sweat going, I stay awake in class pretty well. I also drink massive amounts of water to entertain myself (keeps your hands busy when you're feeling tired, and also your brain loves water!!!). And if I am really bored (say I have an awful professor and the lecture is 2 hours long) I write. I'll write pages of random things. I'll talk about my plans, my to-do list, make a list of people in class wearing green.... whatever really. Best of luck!
Try and get more sleep by reserving late nights of any type to Friday and Saturday night only , Sunday is considered a weekday and if not your grades may suffer .If you have trouble sleeping use melatonin which is a non habit forming natural sleeping aid 1/2 hour before wanted sleep time ...
Many people say to get more sleep but sometimes that isn't possible. You might have activities that you have to participate in. So, in order to stay awake, try to do something at your desk that makes you think. Try writing a short story or drawing. Of course, you can take notes at the same time if you wish. This will always give you something to do so you won't fall asleep.

Before your schooling (which involves a lot of sitting, farther exacerbating poor blood flow, and therefore oxygenation of your brain and mind) you should do a few things:
1: plenty of sleep 2: Jog or walk in the morning (remember your body had just been laying there for 7 hours, can you imagine that state your blood and breathing were in?), this increases blood circulation, vitalizing every cell in your body, also stimulates the lymphatic system to remove toxins, your blood is the highway system for delivering food and taking the garbage out for each of your cells. And if you jog, make sure you land on the front on your foot, this is the more natural way of running or jogging, be light on your heel, and land on your forefoot. 3: drink a tall glass of water (before the jog or walk), your body will be dehydrated from all that sleeping. 4: take a warm or hot shower, then end your shower with cold water, (hot to cold on your skin stimulates circulation). 5. Participate in class, ask and answer questions 6. Take a "bathroom break" in the middle of class if you can, and just walk around for a bit, poking into windows of other classes and such.
I'm assuming this is a real snoozer of a class because great teachers are so engaging they rarely have folks drift off in class. There are tricks to just staying awake such as counting the number of times the monotone professor says "Um" but that won't help you learn. How about making a challenge out of it, let's say figuring out how to boil down what the professor said in the last few paragraphs to 10-15 words. It keeps you engaged in the topic and gives you something active to do.
I have a traumatic brain injury, making me sleepy if i sit still too long. I was able to get permission to stand in the back of the classroom. This allowed me to move around a little while note taking, in turn keeping my blood flowing faster, so I was able to stay awake. (can't have everybody standing up in the back of class though)
Get 8 or more hours of sleep, 100-400mg of caffeine helps also. Caffeine is my favorite psychoactive drug, and it's 100% legal my friend!!! 1g of this drug is toxic, so i'd recommend not ingesting more than 500mg.
