How does a permanent tattoo stay on your skin?

The tattoos that stays on your skin (You know?, Getting one from a tattoo shop), How does it not come off?

They use needles to inject the ink into the dermis (which is like the inner layer of your skin). Since we don't shed those cells in the same way we do the outer layer it makes the tattoos stay permanently (more or less anyways - there is always some fading or discoloration over time).

Sephira hit the nail on the head. Tattoos are not applied on top of the skin, but rather underneath the top layer of skin.

It is not "on" your skin. The ink is injected with needles "into" your skin.

If you do not know the basics of a tattoo, maybe you should wait to get one until you have researched what you are doing.
