does mono stay with you forever

Mononucleosis is caused by viruses, most commonly the Epstein-Barr Virus. Once you have been exposed to the EBV, you will carry it for life. Some people develop mono while others do not. If you do develop mono. it is possible it will come back again, but it is rare.
