Satellite Internet is different than standard broadband in a few ways: 1) Low speeds 2) High costs 3) High latency
You need a router and associated service like compression, caching, satellite-optimized VoIP if you'd like to have a good user experience.
If you want a router for handheld satellite phones like an Iridium 9555 or Inmarsat IsatPhone - you should look at the "Optimizer" which several retailers carry.
If you want a router for satellite broadband systems like FleetBroadband or a VSAT network, you should look at something specific for those services like RedPort.
I do know that some IT folks will use Cisco or Riverbed products with good success, but the cost is much higher than RedPort and the setup is more complex as the Cisco routers are not designed specifically for satellite.
