Fever of 102.2 F should I go to the hospital?

I'm a girl. Ive been feeling horrible since last night but started getting a fever mid morning. I have a headache, so dizzy that its hard to walk, feeling very hot and cold, EXTREMELY stuffy nose and a headache. Earlier i had such a bad scratchy throat it hurt to swallow my saliva. Idk if this helps but when i was 7 i had a 99 fever and it went up to 103.5 within minutes and i was rrushed to the hospital. im shaking like crazy so sorry if theres typos. I cant sleep for more than 5 or 10 minutes tonight, but i was tired all day. My mom says that I should just rest. I was given medication and I have a cold rag for my forhead. what else should I do? Thanks so much xx

For 102.2, you don't normally go to the hospital for that unless you're a kid. If it drastically rose (ex 99 one hour and 102 the next) then I'd go and see a doctor. As for the fever thing, what helps me is to take cold showers. Keep the rag on your head and take a bunch of medicine. Try out different ones bc a fever is just you're body trying to kill whatever is attacking you. Try to go directly to the source rather than just fever medications. Don't take too much medicine or mix too much or you will be much more worse off

Sounds like you may have strep throat. The shaky can be due to the fever. I would definitely get to the Dr and get this checked out for sure. :0) Hope you feel better soon.
PS try not to worry too much. It sounds like your mom is taking great care of you and she would have "mothers intuition" especially if you had to be rushed to the hospital when you were 7. Hang in there. You will be OK. ;0)

102 isn't critical...I think you're going to be alright. Just get some sleep! Your symptoms are probably worsening because of the lack of it. And in the morning if you still feel bad go to the doctor.

I'm in the same vote girl! I was sick last night but then i got fever all of a sudden this morning :/ i know it sucks.. You have a flu. Drink some tylenol.! Im in bed right now and im taking tylenol and eating ice pops! Do that! If your fever continues then you should go to the doctor and get some medicine. I hope you get better!:)

If a fever reducer helps bring down the fever, you're probably fine sitting it out. I've had a stomach virus a couple of times that came with a fever of 103.5. That's getting very high. 102.2 is low enough that an ER might not be able to keep you very long. I took my daughter to the ER once when she had a fever over 103. Our insurance wouldn't allow them to admit her, but the ER kept her anyway until they were sure the fever was going down.

Most of those symptoms are probably caused by the fever. At least the dizziness, heat, and cold are fever related. When your fever is that high, you feel cold. It's possibly because of how cool your surroundings feel on your feverish skin. When your fever goes down, you break out in a clammy sweat and start to feel hot, so even though you're feeling icky the hot claminess is actually a "good" thing. It probably means that your fever is responding to whatever fever reducer you're taking.

Since your mom knows how you're doing, just keep an eye on your fever and let her know if it does spike. I'm sure she'll get you to the ER if it looks necessary.

If you haven't taken ibuprofen yet, this would be a good time to start. You can also take a lukewarm or cool bath or shower too. This will help lower your body temperature. No hot water, no heavy blankets, no hot pajamas even if you have the "chills". You can keep your fever down at home or go to the hospital and have an ice bath or have ice packed in your arm pits, neck, groin, knees, hands and feet. If that is what is required to keep you healthy and safe, head to the hospital. Frankly, I think your mom has you taken care of quite well.
